Housing Justice! Wins CCH Award!
Housing Justice! is proud to announce that we have received the 2007 Faith Based Service Award from the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. At the annual CCH conference in May, we were recognized for creating a new program, Aurora Warms the Night, which provides shelter for homeless men, women and children during severe winter weather. Our role was bringing together local faith leaders and other community stakeholders to create a new partnership with passion and capacity to meet this need. We discussed the issue, examined many possible options for a shelter site, and finally determined that a motel voucher program would best serve in Aurora. Local faith communities that have given leadership and generous financial support to this program include Aurora Interchurch, Friends of St. Andrew, Parkview Congregational Church, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, St. Stephen Episcopal Church, The Bishop and Diocese of Colorado (Episcopal Church), Eastern Hills Community Church, and St. Therese Catholic Church. Our non-profit partners, who provide intake sites and outreach to motel guests, include Arapahoe House, Aurora Interchurch, Colfax Community Network, Comitis, Friends of St. Andrew, and Metro Community Providers Network. We would like to thank individual contributors and recognize the generous sponsorship of the Anschutz Family Foundation, The Denver Foundation and the former Annunciation Partners (Neighborhood Partners) - all of whom have supported this project.
